Medigap Plans K and L
Lower premiums, shared costs, and a yearly ceiling.
Plans K and L are cost-sharing Medigap plans. Instead of paying gaps in full, they pay part of them until you reach a yearly out-of-pocket limit, after which they pay 100% of covered cost sharing for the rest of the year.
How they compare
| Plan K | Plan L | |
|---|---|---|
| Part A coinsurance and extra hospital days | 100% | 100% |
| Part A deductible | 50% | 75% |
| Part B coinsurance | 50% (100% for preventive care) | 75% (100% for preventive care) |
| Skilled nursing, hospice, blood | 50% | 75% |
| Out-of-pocket limit (2026) | $8,000 | $4,000 |
| Part B deductible, excess charges, foreign travel | Not covered | Not covered |
Who they can fit
People who want a cap on their costs with Original Medicare but prefer a lower premium than Plan G, and who can absorb some cost sharing. The out-of-pocket limits include your share of covered services; the Part B deductible counts toward them.
Common questions
The plan pays 100% of covered Part A and Part B cost sharing for the rest of the calendar year.
