Best Ways to Bundle Insurance (2026)
Bundling can simplify things and lower your price. It isn't automatically the better deal.
Facts checked September 23, 2026
Bundling means buying more than one policy from the same insurer, usually for a multi-policy discount. It can also mean one renewal date, one app and one claims contact.
The catch: a discount on an uncompetitive policy can still cost more than two separate policies from different insurers. The only way to know is to price both ways.
Bundles worth pricing
1. Home and auto
Best for: Homeowners with one or more cars
The classic bundle, and among the most widely discounted. It's also where you should compare hardest, because both policies are large.
2. Renters and auto
Best for: Renters who drive
Renters insurance is usually inexpensive, and the multi-policy discount on the auto side can offset much of its cost. For many renters it's worth pricing together.
3. Condo and auto
Best for: Condo owners
It works like home and auto. Check how your condo policy fits with the association's master policy, too.
4. Multiple vehicles on one policy
Best for: Households with more than one car, or a motorcycle
Many insurers discount multi-vehicle policies, and some can combine cars and motorcycles. It also keeps limits consistent across vehicles.
5. Umbrella with home and auto
Best for: Anyone with savings or a home to protect
An umbrella adds liability protection above your home and auto limits. Many insurers require the underlying policies to meet minimum limits, and some require them to be with the same company.
6. Boat with home or auto
Best for: Boat owners
Some insurers offer a multi-policy discount for adding a boat. Make sure the boat policy covers how and where you actually use it.
7. Life with auto or home
Best for: Buyers who value one relationship
Some companies discount the property policy when you add life insurance, but life insurance should be chosen on its own merits: the right term, amount and price.
How to tell if a bundle is really cheaper
Get three prices with identical coverage: the bundle, and each policy on its own from the most competitive insurer you can find. Compare the bundle total with the best separate total.
- Use the same limits, deductibles and endorsements in every quote.
- Check what happens if you later cancel one policy. You'll lose the discount on the other.
- Look at claims service for both lines, not only price.

Common questions
No. The multi-policy discount can be outweighed if one of the policies is priced high to begin with. Compare the bundle with the best separate quotes for the same coverage.
Home or renters with auto is the most common bundle, and among the most widely discounted. Umbrella, boat and multi-vehicle bundles can also make sense.
A bundle discount comes from one insurer. You can still keep policies with different insurers if that works out cheaper or gives you better coverage.
